Abstract

This research was aimed to describe the correlation between locus of control and academic achievement. The method used in this research was correlational research. The population of the research was the fourth and sixth semester students of English Education Study Program of UIN Raden Fatah Palembang. There were 468 students from four semesters as the population in this research. 155 students were choosen as the sample by using purposive sampling. Furthermore, there were two variables in this research, the first one was locus of control (variable X) and the second one was students‟ academic achievement (variable Y). The students locus of control score was taken from locus of control questionnaire provided by Rotter. Meanwhile, the students academic achievement was taken by having documentation. Based on the data analysis, it was found that the r-obtained (0.043) was lower than r-table (0.157). Then the level of probability (p) significance (sig.2-tailed) was 0.599. which means that p (0.599) was higher than 0.05. Therefore null hypothesis (H 0 ) was accepted and the alternative hypothesis (H a ) was rejected. From the research finding, it could be concluded that there was no significant correlation between locus of control and academic achievement. It means that students‟ locus of control was not a dominant factor that affects academic achievement. Keywords: Academic Achievement, Locus of Control
