Abstract

This study was to find out the types of grammatical error, and to figure out the dominant type of grammatical error in speaking of the sixth semester English education study program students of UIN Raden Fatah Palembang. The research design was qualitative descriptive. The subject of the study was the sixth semester students of English education study program. The sample was taken by using purposive sampling method which consisted of 12 students, three students from each category of the high, medium, and low score of speaking IV class. The collection of data used documentation by recording student’s speaking performance. The data were analyzed by using Linguistic Category Classification from Politzer and Ramirez. Based on the result of analysis, 12 types of grammatical errors were found. The dominant type of grammatical error was Number (25 %). The lowest percentages were third person singular incorrect, and comparative adjective/adverb incorrect (2%). Keywords: error analysis, grammatical error, speaking.
