Abstract

The main purpose of the thisresearch was to investigate the correlation and the influence between students‘ emotional intelligenc and academic achievement. 210 students consist of fifth and third semester were selected from among undergraduate EFL students of English Education study program at UIN Raden Fatah Palembang as the sample. Paul Mohapels‘ model questionaire containing 40 items were administered to the participants. Academic documentation was obtained to determine their GPA. Pearson product moment and regression analysis were used to find out the correlation and the influence between variables. The result showed that there was a significant correlation between students‘ self awreness and academic achievement with r = .478, emotional management and academic achievement with r = .197, and relationship management and academic achievement with r = .158.However, there were no correlation between self emotionl awareness and academic achievement. Besides, there was also a significant influence of self awareness with 22.9%, emotional management with 3,9%, and relationship managementwith 2.5% on academic achievement with . This study could have implications for English language teachers, course designers, learners, and text book writers. Keyword – emotional intelligence, academic achievement.
