Abstract

This study investigated the correlation between academic self-concept and academic achievement and explored the influence of academic self-concept on academic achievement of English Education Study Program Students of UIN Raden Fatah Palembang. The population of this study was 625 students of English Education Study Program Students of UIN Raden Fatah Palembang in academic years 2016/2017. 390 students were taken as the sample by purposive sampling. Academic Self-Concept Scale (ASCS) and documentation were used to collect the data. Descriptive statistic, pearson product moment correlation, and regression analysis were employed to analyze the data. Data analysis using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient revealed that students’ academic self-concept significantly correlated with students’ academic achievement (r=242, p=.000). Additionally, the linier regression analysis showed that students’ academic self-concept contributed 5,9% to their academic achievement. Thus, the results indicated that there was a correlation between students’ academic self-concept and their academic achievement, and students’ academic self-concept influenced their academic achievement.
