Abstract

The title of this study is Morphological Study of Inflectional Affixes in “The Hound of Baskervilles” by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. This study aimed at finding out: (1) each type of inflectional affixes found in the novel The Hound of the Baskervilles by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, (2) the number of each type of inflectional affixes found in The Hound of the Baskervilles by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, (3) the most frequently type of inflectional affixes arose in the novel. This study was qualitative research which used content analysis method . The data collected were using by documentation technique. The analyzed data were done by three ways, namely collecting the words, counting the affixes and summarizing the result. The subject of this study was novel with title ―The Hound of the Baskervilles‖ by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The number of contents were 205 pages and 15 chapters. After analyzing the novel, it was found out that: (1) there were 1625 words using inflectional affixes which were divided into –s/es, -ed, -ing -en, -s, -„s, -er, -est, (2) the number of each type of inflectional affixes were present markers (128), past tense markers (582), progressive markers (253), past participle markers (63), plural markers (492), possesive markers (55), comperative markers (26) and superlative markers (26), included noun makers (546), verb makers (1029), adjective makers (50) of each part of speech, the last (3) the most frequently appeared type of inflectional affixes arose in The Hound of the Baskervilles were past tense suffix –ed as an verb marker.
