Abstract

ABSTRACT The objectives of this study were conducted to find out whether or not there is a significant improvement and difference on the eleventh grade students reading achievement between the students who were taught by using CORI (Concept Oriented Reading Instruction) strategy and those who are not at SMA Muhammadiyah 6 Palembang. Quasi-experimental research design was used the pre-test and post-test treatment design to describe the data. The total number of population was four classes consisted of 145 students. From the population, two classes consisted of 60 students were used as the sample by using convenience sampling. The data were analyzed by using paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test. The findings showed that: First, there was a significant improvement on expository reading achievement between the students who are taught by using CORI strategy and those are not where the p-output was 0.003 and t-obtained was 3.254 at the significance level of p-output was lower than 0.05 in two tailed testing and DF was 29, the critical value of t-table was 2.04. second, there was a significant difference on expository reading achievement between the students who are taught by using CORI strategy and those are not where the p-output was 0.031 and t-obtained was 2.205 at the significant level of p-output was lower than 0.05 in two tailed testing and DF was 58, the critical value of t-table was 1.672. it means that CORI strategy gives a means significant improvement and difference on students’ expository reading achievement.
